FLORIDA THIS REALLY IS THE CAPITAL OF THEME PARKS

ORLANDO FLORIDA – FUN CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

Florida has now become the number one holiday resort by far, with over 40 million visitors each year.  The main attraction of Disney and may other theme parks have contributed to the success of this state combined with its excellent all year round weather.  Once you cross the Atlantic though you’ll soon realize that there are a host of other things to enjoy too - sandy beaches, exotic wild life and the efficient all-American hospitality.  Orlando is surrounded by theme parks – from water to wildlife, educational to roller coasters.  Each competes with the Walt Disney World Resort with its Magic Kingdom of ingenious ‘rides’, the futuristic Epcot Center and MGM Studios where you can learn everything you ever wanted to know about movie-making.  So what are the other theme parks – well to give you an idea here’s just a selection.

THEME PARKS

Universal Studios – The state of the art motion picture and television studio, that includes features such as a lifelike King Kong and Jaws!  This is also the home of the Hard Rock Café, Florida.

Cypress Gardens – A beautiful setting for water ski shows and boat rides.  Girls in beautiful southern traditional dress stroll around these incredible manicured gardens.

Splendid China – Opened in November 1993 this is an exact replica of China including the “Great Wall”.  Traditional shows and cuisine make this the next best thing to visiting the Far East.

Sea World – The world’s largest marine life park is the area’s second most popular attraction with the star attraction being a 40 ft killer whale, watch for the splash zone!

WATER PARKS

Typhoon Lagoon – This 50 acre water park owned by Disney includes a 95 ft mountain with 9 water slides, a wave beach and fish filled snorkeling lagoon.

BLIZZARD BEACH

This is the newest of Disney’s water parks and its theme is the North Pole, with water slides carving their way through ice-capped mountains and glaciers.

WET ‘n’ WILD

A 38-acre water recreation park with a bonanza of water slides, water rides and wave pool.  See if you have the nerve for the Black Hole Ride.

WATER MANIA

A 25-acre water recreational park with wave pool, water slides, volleyball court, beach area and a 72-ft slide.

Arabian Nights, King Henry’s Feast, Medieval Nights – To mention just a few of the theme evening entertainment spots.  They all offer copious amounts of food and wine to their visitors while you watch thrilling topical entertainment.  Make sure to get a cab home.

WITHIN AN HOURS DRIVE

Kennedy Space Center – An excellent day out and very educational.  The bus tour is a must, this takes you round the whole of the space center, close to the launch pad, past the building where the space shuttle is stored and much more.  Watch out for the wildlife, this is a nature reserve too.  The Imax theatre is also an incredible experience.

Busch Gardens, Tampa – A safari theme park, skyway and monorail rides to view the African Wildlife, petting areas where children can get close to some of the animals and a dolphin show.  The famous “Cork Screw” roller coaster and water rides add a thrill to this day out – make an early start.

Cocoa Beach & Daytona Beach (Gulf Coast) – Cocoa beach is close to Kennedy Space Center and home to Ron John’s Surf Shack the essential beach shop which is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  Daytona Beach is quite an education where cars and beach buggies drive along the beach – the whole atmosphere is fun.  There is good surf on this side of the coast.

Clearwater Beach & St Petersburg (Gulf Coast) – Calm blue seas and soft white sands make this one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the world.  “Bay Watch” style lifeguards add to the atmosphere, a truly American experience

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Shopping – There are enormous shopping complexes called “shopping Malls” which are completely undercover and air-conditioned.  The two most popular malls are the Florida Mall and the Altamonte Springs Mall.  Disney also has its own shopping complex called the Market Place with a shop that sells Christmas decorations all year round.

Restaurants – Eat in or take away, there is plethora of every imaginable type of Restaurant close to Indian point, starting with those located along Highway 192.  Planet Hollywood has recently opened next to pleasure Island and the Disney Market Place, this is a must wonder if you’ll see any famous people there?

Sports – From the thrills of hiring a Jet Ski to the quiet of one of the numerous Golf course Florida has it all.  Don’t worry if you’re on your own whatever your sport you’ll be teamed up with players of a comparable standard.

As mentioned before there are many other attractions, places to go and things to do.  Your holiday home is ideally located, close to everything yet far from the maddening crowd when you just want to relax by the pool in peace and tranquility.
